Excuse me for a moment while I channel my inner Sophia Petrillo from The Golden Girls. Picture it: You’re walking down Main Street, U.S.A. and you smell something so wonderful your mouth starts to water. What is it? What could smell this delicious? It is none other than Disney popcorn.

There are a lot of great Disney snacks, but there is something truly special about the popcorn. It’s buttery. It melts in your mouth. It’s exactly what popcorn should be. Whether you’re sitting on a bench taking a rest or watching a show, popcorn is the perfect accompaniment no matter what you’re doing at Disney.

For some reason, popcorn tastes so much better when you’re on Disney property. There is something extra special about it, which is why I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about one of the best snacks you absolutely need to try when you’re visiting the best place on earth.

1. It’s Vegan

According to multiple websites, including Vegan Disney World, the Disney Food Blog, and PETA, popcorn at Disney is vegan. The butter flavoring used is apparently dairy-free. For those who prefer that tasty maple-flavored popcorn (available at Epcot’s Canada Pavilion), it is also vegan. How great is that?

2. What Kind Is It?

If you’re wondering about the brand of popcorn popped throughout Disney, it is Pop Secret. In September 2015, Pop Secret became the “official popcorn” of both Disney World and Disneyland. Before this change, Disney used ConAgra’s Orville Redenbacher’s brand.

3. Make It At Home

Pop Secret is available in stores, so you can pop it whenever you want. However, if you want that exact Disney taste there are plenty of Disney popcorn recipes out there. According to Magical Recipes and YouTuber Brad in SoCal, the secret ingredient is Flavacol, which you can purchase on Amazon.

4. The Smell

Disney popcorn smells amazing, there’s no doubt about that. But, it’s been said that a popcorn aroma is pumped into Main Street, U.S.A., in addition to the natural scent of popcorn coming from wherever it’s being popped. Disney is known for using scents as an imagineering detail helping guests connect even more to a ride and the parks as a whole.

5. Where You Can Find It In The Parks

Disney popcorn is available across all parks at both Disney World and Disneyland. For example, when you first enter Magic Kingdom at Disney World, there is a popcorn cart at the very front near the Main Street Chamber of Commerce. Be sure to keep your eyes and nostrils open so you don’t miss the carts and kiosks!

6. Epcot Flavors

At Epcot, there are also special popcorn flavors available near Journey Into Imagination With Figment in Future World. There’s a cart, where you can choose from three different flavors: Cheddar Cheese, Buffalo Bleu Cheese, and Sour Cream and Chive! I have yet to try any of these, but they’re definitely on my to-do list.

7. Disney Main Street Popcorn Company

There are also bags of popcorn you can purchase throughout the Disney parks and resorts from the Disney Main Street Popcorn Company. There are a variety of flavors, including, but not limited to, Kettle Corn, Truffle, and Sriracha Kettle Corn. I also highly recommend stopping at Karamell-Küche in the Germany Pavilion, where you can purchase some of the tastiest bags of popcorn. To be clear, these aren’t from the Main Street Popcorn Company line, but rather presented by Werther’s Original — and the caramel popcorn flavors are to die for.

8. Disney Popcorn Buckets

Lastly, you must take advantage of the refillable popcorn bucket deal. At Disney World, you can buy souvenir popcorn buckets (for around $12) and then have them refilled during your stay at any stand and at any park for $2. This is one deal you can’t and shouldn’t pass up. The more popcorn, the better, right?

Disney popcorn will forever be a favorite snack of mine — and one I look forward to munching on every time I visit the place where dreams come true.

  1. When wee there 4 years ago, we got the Cinderella refillable carriage. TAKE MY MONEY! It was delicious and fun. My daughter keeps toys in it and has dragged it around for miles and miles through the airport and to a friends house etc. It was the best investment and we took it on our next trip too. PS love your blog!!!!!

    1. Aw, how wonderful! And thank you for your kind words — they are truly appreciated!

  2. Thanks for the cute article. But can you update it with allergen information? I actually DO need to know that. How about just for the popcorn at the carts, since that is the iconic popcorn and where the collectible buckets usually come from.
