Disney News This Week: Aug. 26, 2018

Every week I will gather news from Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Come the end of the week, I will share the latest announcements with all of you. So, let’s begin!

Here is news for the week of Aug. 20-Aug. 26, 2018:

1. The End Of Plastic Straws & Lids Begins

At the end of July, the Walt Disney Company announced it would be eliminating single-use plastic straws across all Disney locations globally. The goal is to go plastic straw free by mid-2019. Well, this week, both Disney Food Blog and WDW News Today reported plastic straws, lids, and bags are starting to be eliminated at Disneyland, in addition to plastic straws being available upon request and the elimination of lids at Disney World.

2. The “Digital Key” Is Now Everywhere

The Digital Key on the My Disney Experience app, which uses Bluetooth technology to unlock resort rooms, is now available at all Disney World resorts.

3. No More FastPass Or MaxPass For Pirates

According to WDW News Today, at this time the plans to add FastPass and MaxPass services to Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction has been delayed indefinitely. It’s unclear if FastPass and MaxPass will be offered in the future.

4. Disneyland Halloween Time Treats Are Here

This week, the list of Disneyland’s Halloween Time treats were released, and, wow, they look amazing. From Halloween-themed churros to Mickey Bread with Fangs to Candy Corn Cotton Candy, there’s a variety of yummy options. Check out all of the deliciousness here.

5. You Can Now Mobile Order Dole Whip & Beer

If you’re visiting Disneyland, WDW News Today reports you can now use the Mobile Order feature on the My Disney Experience App at the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland at Disneyland Park at Bayside Brews in Paradise Park at Disney California Adventure.

6. Free Food & Wine Gifts For Annual Passholders

At the 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, there will be special gifts and events available to Annual Passholders. First, there is “Thank You Thursdays“, early-access shopping events (8 a.m. to 9 a.m.) held at The Festival Center and MouseGear. This is part of the V.I.PASSHOLDER event series and will be offered on select Thursdays (Aug. 30, Sept. 20, and Oct. 18). Passholders do not have to register for this event. Annual Passholders will also receive two Chef Mickey-inspired gifts on their first and fourth visits at the festival, while supplies last. On their first visit, they will get a Passholder magnet. On their fourth visit, they will take home a Passholder-exclusive cutting board. Passholders can pick up their gifts at the Festival Center.

7. Character Voices Are Now In Elevators

Here’s a fun feature! Chip and Company reports characters voices (Mickey, Minnie, and Chip) are now announcing floor numbers in elevators at Disney World’s Contemporary Resort. This is what every Disney resort needs!

8. Early Morning Magic Coming To Toy Story Land

This is some awesome news, especially for those who want to visit Toy Story Land without heavy crowds. On Aug. 22, the Disney Parks Blog announced Early Magic Hours are coming to Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios beginning Sept. 17 and will be available on select mornings for an additional ticket price. It costs $79 plus tax for adults ages 10+ and $69 plus tax for children ages 3-9. These special hours (on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.) offer exclusive, limited-time access to Toy Story Land’s attractions and character greetings, in addition to a continental buffet.

9. You Can Still Order Pongu Lumpia At Pandora

It was reported this week that Pongu Lumpia, the popular treat at Pongu Pongu at Pandora: The World of Avatar in Animal Kingdom was no longer being offered. However, WDW News Today reported on Aug. 23 that guests can still order the pineapple and cream cheese snack, despite it not being listed on the menu. Per WDW News Today, chefs will make the treat fresh, but all guests have to do is ask for it.
