Toy Story Land Holiday Preview, New Disney World Hotel, & Other Disney News This Week

Every week I gather the latest news from Walt Disney World and Disneyland to help you keep up with all of the changes. Here is the most recent Disney news for the week of Oct. 15-Oct.21, 2018:

1. Toy Story Land Is Getting Into The Holiday Spirit

Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will soon get into the holiday spirit. First, Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear are going to be sporting festive outfits, including holiday vests, as you can see below. Secondly, starting on Nov. 8, the land will be adorned with holiday decor, including “oversized cranberry-and-popcorn garland, a holiday card ‘selfie’ of  Toy Story pals, an oversized Hamm sugar cookie, Green Alien ornaments,” and so much more. Better yet, Alien Swirling Saucers will have two holiday tracks and themed lighting, in addition to Slinky Dog Dash having sleigh bells ringing.

2. Prices For Annual Passes, Parking, & MagicBands Increase

As reported by Inside the Magic, Disney World’s raised its prices for annual passes and parking. Here are the new annual passes rates for those outside of Florida:

  • Platinum Plus: $994 (up from $949)
  • Platinum: $894 (up from $849)
  • Gold: $609 (up from $589)
  • Silver: $479 (up from $439)

Here are the new parking rates:

Standard: $25 (up from $22)
Oversized: $30 (up from $27)
Preferred: $50 (up from $45)

WDW News Today also reported MagicBand prices increased. Solid color MagicBands are now $15.97 with tax (up from $12.99 plus tax). Open edition bands are now $24.99 and limited release bands are now $29.99, both seeing a $2 increase.

3. Date-Based Ticket Pricing System Is In Full Swing

Disney World’s new date-based ticket pricing system went into effect on Oct. 16. Ticket prices basically depend on the travel dates selected, with some being more expensive and others being cheaper.

4. Hours For Animal Kingdom Attractions Reduced

Hours for certain attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom have been reduced. These attractions include Kilimanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, and Maharajah Jungle Trek. You can see the updated schedule here.

5. A New Disney Junior Dance Party Is Coming

Starting Dec. 22, 2018, there will be a new Disney Junior Dance Party live show at Hollywood Studios featuring Mickey Mouse. The party with DJ Deejay and host Finn Fiesta will give kids the chance to sing, dance, and play with their favorite Disney Junior stars, including Doc McStuffins, Timon from The Lion Guard, and Vampirina from Vampirina.

6. Concept Art Released For Coronado Springs Resort

More details for the reimagining of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort have been revealed. The Disney Parks Blog released photos of the renderings, which include a new 15-story tower that will add 545 guest rooms (50 suites are included in this number). The tower will also have a two-story lobby and guests will even be able to dine atop the tower at a “unique table-service restaurant that will provide incredible views of Walt Disney World Resort.” The expansion is slated to be completed next summer.

7. An Okapi Calf Was Recently Born

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge welcomed an okapi calf on Oct. 1 that weighed 54 pounds. He doesn’t have a name just yet, but once he’s old enough guests will be able to see him on the savanna at Animal Kingdom Lodge!

8. Mickey Mouse Club Merch & Christmas Spirit Jerseys Are Here

Disney parks has released an adorable vintage collection inspired by the Mickey Mouse Club, in addition to all kinds of Christmas merchandise like festive spirit jerseys. You can find all of these items at World of Disney locations in Disney Springs at Disney World and in Downtown Disney at Disneyland.

9. New Nature-Inspired Hotel Coming To Disney World

Disney World is welcoming a brand new hotel. The company announced plans to build a nature-inspired hotel near the old River Country water park along the shores of Bay Lake between Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The new resort is said to have 900 hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas. It’s slated to open in 2022.

10. PinQuest Is Now At Animal Kingdom

As reported by the Disney Pins Blog, PinQuest is now at Animal Kingdom. If you don’t know what PinQuest is, it’s a scavenger hunt throughout the park. After you purchase a starter pack, aka an “adventure kit,” you will use a variety of clue cards, pins, and decoder medals to explore the park. After you redeem the clue for a pin, that pin will lead you to your next location. Upon completion, you will be eligible to purchase a QuestEAR pin completer pin, which in this case is Safari Mickey!

11. All Kinds Of Yummy New Treats Are Coming To WDW

There’s a list of new treats coming to Disney World in November, including Tink’s Pixie-Dusted Cone, a Space Ranger Slush, a Cheshire Cat Cupcake, and so many others. Be sure to head on over to the Disney Parks Blog for more information and photos!

12. A Fun New Update To The Play Disney Parks App

The Play Disney Parks app can now be used in Pandora at Animal Kingdom (The ACE Guide to Pandora: Valley of Mo’ara Edition) and at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort (Stories of the Enchanted Gallery)! The Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE) is “an adventurous journey as you explore the colors, cultures and creatures of Pandora.” This experience offers a different look inside Pandora and is perfect while standing in line for Avatar Flight of Passage.

As for Stories of the Enchanted Gallery, this is the first Play Disney Parks experience at a Disney Resort hotel. Guests will now become their own animators and will be able to “bring the art-filled walls of the lobby to life while checking in or enjoying your stay.”

13. Catch A ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’ Sneak Peek

Guests at visiting both Disney World and Disneyland will soon be able to watch a sneak peek of Ralph Breaks the Internet. For a limited time starting on Nov. 2, you can see the sneak peek at Hollywood Studios’ Walt Disney Presents attraction. From Nov. 9 through Dec. 9, guests can watch the preview in 3D at the Tomorrowland Theater.

14. Here’s A Preview Of The Disney Skyliner

Disney World’s Skyliner gondola system is currently being built. To learn more, the Disney Parks Blog released a new preview video. Check it out here.

15. Check Out The New World Of Disney Stores Redesigns

The redesign of Disney World’s Disney Springs and Disneyland’s Downtown Disney World of Disney locations are completed. You can check out the renovations in the video below. Both locations also now offer $1 reusable bags made from 80 percent recycled materials that are possibly in place of plastic bags. Both stores are currently open, but the grand reopenings will be held on Oct. 26 (Downton Disney) and Oct. 27 (Disney Springs).
