Epcot’s New Japan Pavilion Restaurant Will Open Soon & Other Disney News This Week

Every week I gather the latest news from Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, and other Disney parks to help you keep up with all of the changes. Here is the most recent Disney news for the week of May 13-May 19, 2019:

1. New Disney Parks Designer Collection

There is a new Disney Parks Designer Collection coming to both Disney World and Disneyland Resort starting May 24. The limited-release collection will feature Mickey Mouse ear hats and Minnie Mouse ear headbands “designed by notable celebrities, designers, and artists”. Each month new designs will be released. Here is the full schedule:

2. Play Disney Parks App Adds New Experiences 

For those visiting Disney World, the Play Disney Parks app added two new interactive experiences presented by Ziploc for Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park and for Kidcot Fun Stop at Epcot’s World Showcase.

*Splash Mountain — The Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day: A series of mini-games themed after Splash Mountain and featuring woodland creatures from the beloved attraction. Upon completion of the challenges, players will receive special photo frames to capture their memories.

*Kidcot Fun Stop — Disney Kidcot Puzzle Hunt: Players will search for physical jigsaw puzzle pieces at Kidcot Fun Stops located in each of the 11 World Showcase pavilions. Those participating will also get digital jigsaw puzzles and special photo frames themed after each pavilion as a reward.

3. New Forky Merchandise Is Now Available

There is Forky merchandise inspired by the new and hilarious character from Toy Story 4 now available at Disney World (Beverly Sunset Boutique or Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and World of Disney at Disney Springs) and at Disneyland (Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure and World of Disney at Downtown Disney District).

4. The Japan Pavilion’s New Restaurant Will Open…

Epcot’s new Japan Pavilion restaurant is called Takumi-Tei, aka “house of the artisan,” and it’s set to open in summer 2019. The signature table-service dining experience will feature food “inspired by the wonderful collaboration between nature and takumi, the artisan.” The menu is said to “highlight wagyu beef in a sublime setting, and guests interested in the ultimate experience will be able to indulge in a multi-course tasting menu featuring traditional tea service.” There will also be signature cocktails, premium sake, wine, and craft beer.

5. There Are Even More New Ears 

Two new pair of ears will soon be released at Disney World and Disneyland. As you can see below, Magic Mirror Metallic ears and Imagination Pink Ears (and a Spirit Jersey, too!) will arrive at the parks on June 14. Aren’t they stunning?

6. An Americana Collection Is Available At The Parks

If you’re looking for some red, white, and blue gear for Memorial Day or Fourth of July, here you go. A brand new Americana collection is now at select locations at Disney World and Disneyland, including Disney Springs and Downtown Disney District, respectively.

7. Catch A Sneak Peek Of ‘Toy Story 4’

You can watch a sneak peak of scenes from Toy Story 4 at Disneyland Park’s Tomorrowland Theater and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney Presents on May 24. Those on the Disney Cruise Line can also watch the preview between May 24 and June 20. Disneyland Paris will also present the sneak peak at the Studio Theater at Walt Disney Studios Park from June 18 through the 28.

8. ‘Alice In Wonderland’-Themed Tea Party Coming To Disneyland

First of all, there are all kinds of new food options at both Disneyland and Disney World. Secondly, there is a new Alice in Wonderland-inspired tea party coming to the Disneyland Hotel at Steakhouse 55. The party is called A Very Merry Unbirthday Tea Party will offer themed treats, sweets, sandwiches, and, of course, tea. The party will run from May 31 through Sept. 1, 2019 on Friday through Sundays. The price is as follows: $52 Regular Tea Party per adult, $65 Premium Tea Party per adult, and $39 Kids’ Tea Party per child (ages 3 and up), plus tax and gratuities for all. You can make reservations online or by calling 714-781-DINE.

9. Shop Disney Parks App Is Being Retired

On May 31, the Shop Disney Parks app will officially retire. This means shopDisney will now serve as the “one-stop, online retail destination for Disney merchandise, including merchandise from Disney Parks,” including Disneyland, Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and more.
