There’s so much to see and do at this Walt Disney World spring/summer event, but let’s talk about the must-dos at the 2021 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival that you need to try.

This year’s modified festival is currently underway and runs through July 5! Yes, it’s a much longer festival than normal, but seeing as 2020’s Flower & Garden got cut short due to the pandemic, guests finally have time to enjoy the festival.

And if you’re planning on attending, here are 8 must-dos to add to your list!

1. Look at every topiary

There are a lot of topiaries to see at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and I recommend checking out each one. They are gorgeous, unique, and make for the perfect photos.

Here’s a complete list:

  • Main Entrance: Sorcerer Mickey, Fantasia characters
  • Future World West: Woody, Bo Peep, Simba and friends
  • Between Future World & World Showcase: Mickey, Minnie Goofy, Pluto, Chip ‘n Dale
  • Showcase Plaza: Donald, Daisy, Huey, Dewey, Louie
  • Near Mission: SPACE: Buzz Lightyear
  • Near Imagination! Pavilion: Figment, Butterflies
  • Mexico Pavilion: Three Caballeros
  • Norway Pavilion: Anna, Elsa, Troll
  • Japan Pavilion: Dragon
  • China Pavilion: Pandas, Zodiac Topiary Garden (front of Nine Dragons)
  • Germany Pavilion: Snow White, Dopey
  • Italy Pavilion: Lady and the Tramp
  • France Pavilion: Beast, Belle, Remy
  • Between U.K. and Canada pavilions: Kermit, Miss Piggy
  • U.K. Pavilion: Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Winnie the Pooh and friends, Tinker Bell and Fairy Houses (by gazebo)
  • Near MouseGear: Bambi and friends
  • Outside of Main Entrance (before touch points): Mushrooms
  • Outside World Showplace entrance/exit (between Canada and U.K. pavilions) : Mickey & Minnie

2. Walk through the butterfly house

Located between the Land and Imagination! pavilions, the Goodness Garden Butterfly House gives guests the chance to see butterflies, learn about their lifecycles, and even maybe see one emerge from its chrysalis.

Don’t get scared off if you see a line, because it usually moves fast and it just seems long due to health and saftey measures.

This is a quick and short activity, but definitely a worthy one. Plus, you might even get to see Winnie the Pooh, Joy, or Chip and Dale right next door as they’re doing socially-distanced interactions.

Important: the butterfly house closes at dusk.

3. Eat and drink at the outdoor kitchens

There are over 20 outdoor kitchens at the festival and they are all worth visiting — at least to browse the menus.

What makes EPCOT’s seasonal festivals so special are the food and beverage offerings available at the booths throughout Future World and the World Showcase.

You can browse all of the menus on the official Disney World website, but here are just a few of my recommendations:

Germany Pavilion — Bauernmarkt: Farmer’s Market

  • Potato Pancakes with House-made Apple Sauce (Gluten/Wheat-Friendly) (Plant-Based)
  • Warm Cheese Strudel with Mixed Berries

World Showplace — Cider House

  • 3 Daughters Brewing Pink Lemonade (St. Petersburg, Florida)

Future World East (near Test Track) — Epcot Sunshine Griddle (NEW)

  • Fried Cinnamon Roll Bites with Cream Cheese Frosting and Candied Bacon (you can ask for no bacon, like I did)
  • Joffrey’s Coffee Cold Brew Cocktail with Milk, Kahlúa Rum and Coffee Liqueur, and Vanilla Vodka

Future World West (before Starbucks) — Flavor Full Kitchen

France Pavilion — Fleur de Lys

  • Tarte aux Oignons Caramélisés et Chèvre: Goat Cheese Tart with Caramelized Onions on a Flaky Pastry Crust
  • La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy: Vodka, Grey Goose l’Orange Vodka, St. Germain Liqueur, White and Red Cranberry Juice

Mexico Pavilion — Jardin de Fiestas

  • Sope de Chorizo: Ground Chorizo on Fried Corn Dough with Black Beans and Avocado Mousse (Gluten/Wheat-Friendly) (Plant-Based)

Showcase Plaza — Trowel & Trellis (hosted by Impossible Foods; all plant-based)

  • Boneless Impossible Korean Short Rib with Cilantro-Lime Rice, Danmuji Slaw and Kimchee Mayonnaise (Plant-Based)

The American Adventure — Magnolia Terrace

  • Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream

Showcase Plaza (towards Canada) — Refreshment Port

  • House-Made Italian Sausage and Peppers Poutine (Plant-Based)

4. Check out World Showplace

First, you can find the World Showplace between the Canada and U.K. pavilions. You’ll see a Joffrey’s cart right before entering the U.K. and the event center is located down that walkway.

Inside the World Showplace, there are several outdoor kitchens, tables and chairs, standing tables, a massive bathroom, and live entertainment courtesy of some talented piano players.

If you’re comfortable dining indoors (you can always take your food outside, if you prefer), this is definitely worth checking out and also makes for a nice break, especially if there are hot temperatures.

Oh! There is also a hidden Mickey and Minnie topiary located right outside the entrance and exit. How cute are they?

5. Support the local Orlando bands

Who else misses live music? Well, you’re in luck! During the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings, you can catch local Orlando bands in the America Gardens Theatre.

There are only two performances each night and the bands usually play two different sets. I was lucky enough to see the Vintage Vinyl Band in March and they were fantastic.

Cast Members will typically let guests enter the theater about a half hour before the first performance. I always recommend planning ahead and heading over to the theater somewhat early just in case it’s busy.

You can check out the full concert schedule on the WDW website and in the My Disney Experience app.

6. Don’t miss the miniature gardens

There are several miniature gardens around the festival that are not only adorable, but beautiful just like the massive topiaries.

The one above you can find in the Germany pavilion (look at that mini-maypole!) next to the Snow White and Dopey topiaries.

Here is a full list of the gardens available at this year’s festival.

7. Try the new sitting area

There’s a brand new sitting area in Future World West between the Flavor Full Kitchen and Starbucks.

Not only is it gorgeous, but a perfect spot to people-watch and relax.

You can eat and drink here, if stationary and socially-distanced from others, but this is not a Relaxation Station. You cannot simply sit down and remove your face covering for a breather.

8. Do the scavenger hunt

Flower & Garden’s themed-scavenger hunt is Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration 2021. This is fun for both children and adults, especially because it gives you a unique way to explore each pavilion.

For $7.99 (plus tax), you’ll receive a map and stickers at select merchandise locations. You simply hunt for Spike the Bee in each country and then place the corresponding sticker on the map.

Once completed, all you have to do is return your map to Disney Traders (Showcase Plaza) or World Traveler (International Gateway) for a prize. As shared by Disney Food Blog, you can choose between four different dish designs.

There’s also an Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt that’s currently available through April 4, 2021.

You purchase a map for $7.99 (plus tax) at select merchandise locations and then hunt for eggs inspired by Disney characters that are hidden across the park.

Once your map is completed, you’ll return it to a redemption location to receive a “sp-egg-tacular surprise.” Also shared by Disney Food Blog, you get to choose between six Disney-themed decorative eggs as a prize.

Keep in mind that you don’t need to complete the scavenger hunts in one visit. You can do them at your own pace over the course of several visits. But, of course, make sure you finish during the designated time frame.

Even with the 2021 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival being modified this year, there’s still so much to experience! This truly is a fantastic and breathtaking)event that’s not to be missed.
