Disney World Parks Reopening Details, Including FastPass+ Changes

Now that the Walt Disney World parks are reopen, there’s no doubt that the parks are somewhat of different place than guests previously knew.

There are many changes as well, including with FastPass+, Extra Magic Hours, park rules, attractions, merchandise, pin trading, and more.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Can I still purchase merchandise in the parks?

Yes, guests can buy merchandise across parks and resorts. It’s also important to note that there are some modifications to the shopping experience to help mange capacity and ensure physical distancing.

Can I still pin trade?

Guests can pin trade with Cast Members via pin boards in select locations. Pin trading with lanyards won’t be available to help maintain physical distancing.

What about souvenir deliveries?

Temporarily, you can no longer have packages delivered to the front of theme parks or to your hotel.

Many guests prefer to have their souvenirs delivered via either of these methods so they don’t have to carry packages with them. Depending, you may want to buy souvenirs as you exit the park instead.

All that said, you can still ship merchandise home.

Can I use a dressing room and return items?

All dressing rooms will be unavailable for the time being. In-person returns are available at merchandise locations.

FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours for when Walt Disney World reopens

How will FastPass+ work?

The FastPass+ system is suspended for the time being as the parks plan to use an additional queue space to manage capacity at attractions and to help maintain physical distancing.

All existing FastPass+ selections will automatically be canceled.

Will Extra Magic Hours be available?

Extra Magic Hours are no more. As part of the 50th-anniversary celebration, WDW will offer “Early Theme Park Entry.”

This means, Disney Resort hotel guests and guests of other select hotels will be granted 30-minute early entry to any theme park, every day of the week.

What about characters and entertainment?

The following is temporarily suspended to help maintain physical distancing:

  • Select entertainment, including parades and fireworks
  • Character meet and greets
  • Makeover opportunities like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and playgrounds

That said, guests can expect character interactions, but in a new and safe way:

  • Special cavalcades down the Magic Kingdom park parade route
  • Characters sailing the waterways of Animal Kingdom
  • Processions along World Showcase promenade at Epcot
  • Motorcades on Hollywood Boulevard at Hollywood Studios

What about PhotoPass?

The Disney PhotoPass Service continues, but with physical distancing and reduced contact. You can expect the following:

  • Photographers will not handle personal devices like cellphones and cameras.
  • Photo props are cleaned between guests. You might also stand next to or behind a prop, rather than touching it.
  • At a safe distance, the photographer still scans your MagicBand or card.

Which attractions, entertainment, and shops are open at the parks?

First and foremost, you’ll want to hear the important news that Spaceship Earth is open. That’s right, it’s previously planned lengthy refurbishment is currently paused.

Check out my post on character cavalcades and interactions.
